A man and his wife were last week charged with maliciously destroying a neighbour’s door worth Sh2,500 following a land tussle.

Alphonce Misee and Felistus Makuchi were alleged to have committed the offence on April 6 at their Khayega estate, Kakamega East District, the property of Vincent Ihachi.

On a separate charge, Misee was charged with creating disturbance in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by banging at the door while armed with a panga.

State counsel Paul Juma told the court that the two stormed Ihachi’s house at 7.30pm and found his wife Celestine Shitimu preparing supper.

The prosecutor said that the couple confronted Ihachi over the disputed land, forcing her to seek refuge in her main house where she locked the door leaving the two outside.

Misee is said to have banged at the door with his panga and club, destroying it in the process.

The couple was granted Sh10,000 bond with a surety of similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Sh5,000 each.

The hearing was slated for July 11.
