A man has been jailed for 75 years after a Nyamira court found him guilty of robbing and killing a woman.

Dickson Barongo and three others - Charles Mochama, alias Ragogi, David Matogo, and Samuel Nyabunga - were charged with robbing and killing Rose Nyaboke Onyangore at her home in Sirirokwa village in Masaba South, Kisii County, in June 2017.

The court heard that the four, while armed with pangas, axes and clubs robbed the woman of Sh2,500, two mobile phones, an axe and a panga all valued at Sh5,300.

According to investigators, Ms. Nyaboke was killed before or immediately after the robbery.

Keroka Senior Resident Magistrate Samuel Kimutai said the four witnesses who testified against them proved that Mr. Barongo and Mr. Matogo were guilty.

Matogo was sentenced to 15 years in jail, while Nyabunga and Mochama were acquitted.

Barongo was positively identified by Nyaboke’s two children who told the court that he used to work as a farm hand in their home.
