Nairobi's hottest matatu: Alvin is spreading love on the road

Waiyaki Way's 'Alvin'.

A brand new nganya plying the Waiyaki Way route dubbed Alvin and registered with the Super Metro Sacco is putting a smile on the faces of the less fortunate.

Its name resonates with the Alvin cartoon series and has been nicknamed ‘Nyoka’ or ‘Diva’ by Kinoo and Juja residents.

Alvin boasts of five screens and strong W-Fi.

“We are the best in the market. The money we collect as fare is given back to charity. We host events in different children’s homes in Nairobi, where we buy the kids food and clothes.

“It feels so good when we see the smiles on their faces,” said one of the crew, adding that: “We have formed a group by the name, Ni Sisi Association that makes our charity work more accountable.”

Other crew in the Alvin family are ‘pilots’ Humphrey Georgez, John Karinge, Dr Charles Kiambuthi, Gathu Zamzam and Kevoh 254.
