A 21-year-old man found himself in court for allegedly locking up his girlfriend for six months and raping her repeatedly.

Police said Ali Mohammed Abdi, together with others not before court, gang-raped the woman on diverse dates in 2018.

Ali is said to have invited his 24-year-old girlfriend to his place in Nairobi’s Eastleigh sometime in June only to detain her.

The court heard that he had promised to marry her and help her get a job.

According to prosecution, the woman travelled from Mandera to see her boyfriend, but the job she was promised was not forthcoming.

The court was told that Ali demanded that she be his wife. The court heard that after a while, Ali invited two other men who also took turns in raping her for months.

The woman claimed she escaped from her ordeal in December after the Ali forgot to lock the door.

But Ali denied the charges, and instead accused the complainant’s father, claiming he is the one who was against their marriage. He was released on Sh300, 000 bond pending hearing on February 25.
