Shakeel Shabbir: Kisumu mpango begged MP for TV and Wi-Fi

Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir who is caught in child custody battle, has accused the mother of his child of putting the Sh35,000 monthly   upkeep for the child to her personal use.

The legislator who acknowledged being the father of the child said in his affidavit he had also been providing for the woman’s first child who is not his.

In a series of text messages filed in court seen by The Nairobian the woman begs the MP to pay for, among other things, TV subscription, gas, Wi-Fi, bus fare to college, diapers rice sugar and milk.

According to court documents, the woman threatened to “do crazy things which are outa my hands,” if the MP did not stop keeping her in the house without TV like a slave.

In other conversations, the woman also tells Shabbir she wishes to die with her children.

“Are you paying for us so that I can switch on the TV? Or should I go on my knees for you?” says the woman.

The woman then adds: “At least reply me.”

At one point, she threatens to take the TV to the store.

“For Allah’s sake, I can’t starve for TV since you are not paying. I will remove it and keep it in the store or cupboard since we ain’t using it anymore. Don’t punish me for nothing I never wronged you,” she pleads.

“Kindly help with transport…O don’t have money for use at all…I find it really hectic cause all the 4K went on ration which is very little and won’t even last 5 days. One carton of milk ain’t enough for Zarika. She takes 2-3 packets in a day depending on her appetite,” read one of the messages filed in court.

Last week, Shabbir went to court seeking custody and parental responsibility of the two-and-a-half-year old child. Bu the woman wants the court to dismiss the suit and instead award her Sh240,000 monthly upkeep for the child.

The court heard that the two parties have not been able to agree on access to the child and Shabbir, through his lawyer Mitchel Menezes, argued that the minor needs love from both parents.

“Pending the hearing and determination of the suit, we are seeking access to the child over the weekend from Friday 5pm to Sundays 5pm as well as on public holidays and mid-term school vacations,” said Menezes.

In her defence, the woman told the court that the MP rarely visits the child despite access to them.

She added that he sends only Sh35,000 for monthly upkeep of the child.

Regarding the custody battle, she said safety of the child was not guaranteed because Shabbir lives with his wife. She has also claimed the MP has not proved that he is unable to take care of the child.

“Due to this, I am agreeable to allowing him have custody of the child who is likely to be neglected and mistreated in such an environment,” she said.

She instead wants the court to awards her Sh240,00 monthly upkeep- Sh50,000 for rent, Sh18,000 for recreation, Sh30,00 for  monthly food supplies, Sh40,000 for school fees and Sh10,000 each for the house help’s salary, security, school lunch, school transport and transport.

The woman further wants Shabbir to pay Sh8,000 as electricity bill, Sh6,000 for water and Sh28,000 for medical insurance.

The MP will know his fate on September 27, 2018 when the court makes a ruling.
