A man has been accused of violently robbing his wife off Sh214, 000.

The husband, Kyalo Mutua Nguti, a hotel operator on Mombasa road, jointly with others not in court, is alleged to have robbed his wife Agnes Muthina Kisio off her money on May 26.

In the second count Mutua is accused of violently robbing William Mutunga Kyalo off his mobile phone and cash Sh800, all valued at Sh10, 799.

In his defence, Mutua claimed he had been fixed, and that the whole story was a set up. The suspect told the court that his wife was having an affair with a young man.

“This is just cover up by my wife. I sponsored the Mpesa shop she now runs. She then employed a young man, around 18 years old and started sleeping with him,” the suspect told the court.

Adding: “I reported the police, but instead I was arrested.”

Mutua denied the charges and was released on Sh100, 000 cash bail. The case will be heard on August 21.
