Oscar-award winner Lupita Nyong’o sneaked into the country last Saturday for a meeting with her father and international investors from the US.

The Black Panther actress met Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and fellow artistes to discuss steps the county government can take to enhance the arts at large, “It is for the sake of the artists fraternity and the creative industry that the likes of Suzanna Owiyo, Eric Omondi, Winyo Shiphton, Jalang’o, Lupita Nyong’o and myself were invited by the Kisumu County Government this past weekend,” said Nina Ogot who added that they discussed the next obvious steps the county government could take to enhance the arts at large.

“Lupita Nyong’o and I still had a one-on-one discussion about the ‘anomaly’ in our education system that doesn’t encourage artists to properly integrate their tradition into their creative expression which then compromises the artist’s authenticity and cultural identity on both the local and international platforms,” she said.

“This is what has caused Kenya’s artistic and creative stagnation. The obvious lack of cultural integration into an education system that values westernised artistic expression more than its own. #kisumuarts #kisumucounty.”
