Sonko, Sifuna go ‘hunting’ at Mashemeji Derby

By Isaac Swila | Saturday, May 13th 2017 at 09:01

Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Senator Mike Sonko knows all too well where to look for votes — the Mashemeji Derby.  Sonko who has of late taken a gentleman-like approach to issues, was part of the mammoth crowd that filled the Nyayo Stadium on May 7 to watch Gor Mahia play against AFC Leopards.

A witty Sonko appeared clad in a jersey bearing both the K’Ogalo and Ingwe colours — what would be called a ‘two-in-one’ uniform. And yes he had thousands more which bore the message: “SONKO SUPPORTS GOR AND AFC — SONKO SUPPORTS INGWE AND K’OGLAO”. These were distributed to fans.

Also present was Nairobi ODM senatorial aspirant lawyer Edwin Sifuna.

Edwin was here to cheer his favourite team, Ingwe.

Appearing at the venue, flanked by an army of supporters, Sifuna later posted pictures of himself at the Stadium on his Facebook page accompanied by the caption:

“There wasn’t much joy on the pitch... but in the stands, we did have fun. Congratulations shemejis...khakhuche khuyukhe.”

It remains to be seen whether two politicians’ new found love for football will translate to votes come August 8.
