Pregnant maid accused of burning employer’s baby with hot water

Rose Wangui

An expectant house help who allegedly scalded a ten-month-old baby with hot water has been arrested and charged in a city court. Rose Wangui was accused that on August 2, around 4pm at Pioneer estate, she assaulted the baby by burning him with hot water.

The toddler’s mother told police that she left for work early in the morning leaving behind her two children aged eight years and ten months in the care of her house help as usual. But at around 1pm, she reportedly received a call from her mother that the house help had burnt her baby. She returned home and found the baby with burn injuries on his thighs and other body parts.

The court heard that her eight-year-old son revealed that the accused burnt the baby saying she was not the baby’s mother. The baby was admitted at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for treatment for three weeks.

Wanjiru denied the charge. She was released on a Sh30,000 bond. The case will be heard on December 15.
