Last year was historical on the local beauty scene as top models representing Kenya went ahead to scoop prestigious and enviable wins at the international grand finals.

It all started with Mr World Kenya Kevin Oduor who was crowned as the most desirable man in Africa at the Mr World competitions held at Southport, UK in July last year. This was the first time a Mr World title was coming home.

Come December, Evelyn Njambi, the Kenyan representative at the Miss World competition held at Maryland in Washington, DC scooped the Miss World Africa title after being voted among the top five finalists, a rare feat that had eluded Kenya over the years. After raising the bar so high, Evelyn was among other former beauty queens and players in the glamour industry who attended the launch of Miss and Mr World Kenya 2017 competition held at Two Rivers Mall early this week.

Among the past crown holders present was Ruth Kinuthia (Miss World Kenya 2008) and Idah Nguma (Miss World Kenya 2015).

“Mine has been an emotional and impactful journey. It has been a successful one thanks to the joint efforts I got from the entire Miss World Kenya team and partners,” said Evelyn.

“The bar has been set high and we expect to get other new world beaters in this year’s competition. The Miss World Kenya representatives have continued to do well and indeed improve over the years and we can only trust that this year will be better,” said Terry Mungai, the CEO, Ashleys Kenya, the organisation that holds the Miss World franchise in Kenya.

“We have partnered with Two Rivers to make this event a success and for that matter we are sharing the vision of Miss World – Beauty with a Purpose,” she remarked as she announced the audition dates as May 27 and 28.

Her sentiments were echoed by James Kariuki, a commercial director at the Two Rivers Mall who said they developed the partnership with the Miss World Kenya beauty pageant as they were in support of the beauty with a purpose.

Away from Nairobi, the rest of the regions will participate in the auditions now being conducted by Platinum Events company.

Other sponsors and partners include beauty and skin care products dealers Lintons, CateChris Limited and Kijiji Agency.
