Ballers! Governor Amason Kingi and Babu Owino grace Mbogo's birthday where Euros were the only acceptable form of cash

Sights and sounds at Steve Mbogo's birthday

A birthday cake gamble was settled on a €15,000 bet, an equivalent of Sh1.6 million. A slightly higher amount had been blown out in the bet as the city’s rich and famous, among them University of Nairobi students’ don Babu Owino and flashy businessman Jared Otieno funnelled cash to celebrate Steve Mbogo’s record-breaking birthday.

Bills and all other expenses at the white party affair were being paid in cash, and in euros, with Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and controversial businessman Paul Kobia bankrolling fans at the exclusive uptown Dusit D2 Lounge.

It was the preserve of Nairobi’s ‘big boys’, emerging tycoons and politicians who shared the young Mbogo’s big day in style as they shared the cake symbolically created in gold bars. The cheapest drink offered was champagne. When the 20 champagne bottles were lifted for a toast, Sh1,000 notes blew in the air like dust, littering the floor and no one was interested to collect it.

Top celebrities among then Nonini, who was launching his new album at the same occasion, Frasha, emcee Jessy and deejay Ken as well as a host of about-it town girls coloured the ceremony.

Huddah, the Boss Lady, drove in in her new Range Rover.
