Police on Thursday unearthed explosives and ammunition from a farm some five kilometres from Kitale town.

The farm manager at Crescent Springs, Dennis Mbugua, discovered the assorted explosives and 259 rounds of ammunition stuffed in a sack and buried in the farm.

The farm was formerly owned by former Saboti MP Davis Nakitare before it was sold to Western Seed Company.

According to the County Police Commander Ali Gitonga, one highly explosive bomb, a hand grenade and 259 rounds of ammunition were recovered.

Gitonga said the weapons were inspected and discovered to have been manufactured in 1996.

“We have called in bomb experts to help detonate the bomb and there is no cause for alarm,’’ Gitonga told journalists.

In 2008, police arrested 205 youths allegedly undergoing military-like training at the farm.
