A member of Nyumba Kumi Initiative was killed while his two colleagues are nursing injuries in hospital after allegedly being attacked while enforcing the nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew.

Japheth Mayieka and his two colleagues were attacked by irate revellers in a bar at Bonyagatanyi village in Kitutu Chache South Constituency at around 9pm yesterday.

Kisii County Police Commander Jebel Munene said they are investigating what caused Mr Mayieka's death. He, however, said that only police officers are allowed to enforce the 7pm to 5am curfew.

“Members of Nyumba Kumi Initiative are not allowed to enforce the curfew since we are aware that some people might take advantage of that to terrorise the public.

It is only uniformed police officers who are allowed to enforce the curfew," he said.
