Coronavirus: Tanzanian health minister’s message to Mwana FA

When Bongo Flava artist Khamis Mwinjuma, better known as Mwana FA, confirmed that he had tested positive for coronavirus, some of his fans reeled in shock.

But for Mwana FA, there was no need to worry and went ahead to call for his compatriots to heed hygiene guidelines and follow set rules issued by relevant authorities.

“Majibu ya vipimo vyangu vya Covid 19 yamerudi chanya. Inaudhi. Siumwi kabisa. Nipo sawa 100%. Na nimejitenga toka niliporudi ili kuepuka kuathiri wengine. Na kwa bahati hata watoto wangu sijakutana nao kabisa. Hawapo nyumbani,” he posted on Instagram.

A move celebrated by Tanzanian Health Minister Ummy Mwalimu who took to Twitter to point out how brave the Tanzania rapper is.

“Ugua pole mdogo wangu Mwana FA, hakika wewe ni  kijana jasiri, sina shaka kuwa utaishinda corona #PamojaTunavukaSalama ##covid19Tanzania,” Ummy wrote.

The "Yalaiti" and "Bado Nipo Nipo" hitmaker becomes the latest Tanzania artist to test positive for coronavirus after Diamond Platnumz’s manager Sallam SK also went public.

In West Africa, legendary Cameroonian musician Manu Dibango was two days ago confirmed to have the virus and is being treated in a French hospital.

The 86-year-old saxophonist famed for the 1972 hit “Soul Makossa” is considered one of the foremost pioneers of Afro-jazz, and revered for his fusion of funk with traditional Cameroonian sounds.

Other personalities who have tested positive include Arsenal Football Club coach Mikel Arteta, Brooklyn Nets Basketball star Kevin Durant, Juventus players Blaise Matuidi and Daniele Rugani, actor Idris Elba and Tom Hanks together with his wife, Rita Wilson.
