Babu Owino: DCI release statement on MP’s arrest over shooting of Dj in Kilimani

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was on Friday morning arrested over a shooting incident in Kilimani, Nairobi.

According to reports, the MP was involved in an incident where a DJ at the popular B Club along Galana Road was shot and seriously injured.

The injured DJ was rushed to hospital as the first-term MP was detained at Kilimani Police Station.

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) confirmed Babu’s arrest, adding that investigations into the incident are underway.

“Detectives based at Kilimani have today arrested Hon Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino, Member of Parliament for Embakasi East following a shooting incident at B Club located along Galana Road within Kilimani.

“The MP is in lawful custody as further investigations continue,” the statement read.

Speaking to Standard Digital, Kilimani Sub county police boss Lucas Ogara said that they are investigating the circumstances leading to the shooting.

“We will talk to all concerned before we move forward,” he said, assing that they will review CCTV footage to establish what happened.

Police who visited the scene said they are yet to recover the spent cartridge or gun used in the shooting.

Following news of Babu’s arrest, Kenyans took to twitter airing their opinions on the incident, even though it’s not yet clear what provoked the shooting.

Arrest over assault

Babu Owino is not new to controversy and arrests as in 2018, he was apprehended by Flying Squad officers outside Parliament buildings for allegedly assaulting a parking attendant in Westlands, Nairobi.
