Nigerian singer and songwriter Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun known professionally as Wizkid has vowed not to rest until the killer of his superfan - Babatunde Ramon Adeniji - is brought to book.

In a tweet, Wizkid stated that justice must be served for Adeniji; a fan who was allegedly shot by a police officer moments after exiting his Starboy Fest concert in Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday, December 27, 2019.

According to Nigerian outlets, Sergeant Lukmon Akanbi was on patrol at around 4:20 am when he bumped into Adeniji and in the ensuing melee shot the unarmed reveller.

Adeniji and rushed to the Naval Dockyard Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries on arrival.

Sergeant Akanbi, according to Bala Elkana - the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, was consequently arrested.

“The sergeant was found guilty of all the charges and awarded the punishment of dismissal from the Nigeria Police. He is handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for prosecution in conventional Court. The Command condemned the unprofessional conduct of the dismissed Sergeant. The Commissioner of Police condoles with family and friends of the deceased person and assured them that justice will prevail.

“Supervisory officers of erring policemen will henceforth be held vicariously liable for the misconduct of their men. This is part of the measures put in place by the commissioner of police to curb incidents of professional misconduct and engendered accountability in the system,” said Elkana.

A point on extrajudicial killings that did not escape Wizkid who in a follow-up tweet stressed that police brutality must stop.
