Rapper Lil Wayne was reportedly a passenger on a private jet that flew into Miami on Monday, which was stopped by federal agents, according to Miami Herald.

The jet was held at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, according to three law enforcement sources, after agents received a tip about drugs possibly being transported.

A search warrant was being obtained from a Miami federal judge to inspect the aircraft, the publication has reported.

Agents discovered that Lil Wayne, who is popularly known as Weezy but whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., was a passenger on the plane along with a number of others.

It is not clear as to whether anything illegal has been found during the search of the plane.

The search was being carried out with investigators with the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and other agencies.

It has been reported that Miami-Dade police officers were also part of the search team.

All the passengers had to wait at the airport until the investigation has been completed.

There is the probability that anyone who is charged could find themselves in federal custody on Christmas Day.

Miami Herald has reported that it would be normal for anyone charged to be taken to the city's Federal Detention Centre.

The first opportunity to appear in court would then be on Thursday, as the courts are closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Lil Wayne has since tweeted to his fans, indicating that he may have come through the drama.

The rapper wrote: "All goody! I think they thought I was talking abt a different “Pack” in my last tweet. But anyway GO PACK GO!!!"

Relieved fans replied with messages of support and defiance as it racked up the retweets within minutes.

Lil Wayne reportedly owns a 10,000-square-foot home in Miami Beach.
