Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has commended an entrepreneur in Katwe, Uganda, who successfully managed to locally assemble two vehicles.

Sharing the news on social media during his interaction with locals in east Uganda, President Museveni patted Moses Kayira in the back for his innovations.

According to Museveni, Kayira is a trailblazer who needs support having assembled two cars dubbed Uganda 1 and Uganda 2.

“During my interaction with youth in Katwe, I met the trailblazing Moses Kayira, who has assembled two cars: Uganda 1 and Uganda 2. He offered me a test drive in one of the cars,” he wrote.

Museveni went on to promise the government’s support to Kayira and the local creative youth in Uganda.

“The government is going to support the likes of Kayira in promoting further innovations and many other novel ideas geared towards exploiting their abilities for national development. If they can do so much single-handedly, then government support will stretch their ability to deliver on innovations the world is yet to see,” added Museveni.

However, Museveni’s visit to Katwe that also saw him launch a savings and loan initiative for the youth living in slums did not settle well with Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine.

Bobi Wine dismissed the president's visit saying the head of state was “scared and desperate” and now appealing for support after impoverishing the ghetto.

“For 34 years, this man impoverished, marginalised and ignored the ghetto people. He evicted them from their land. He didn't care about their health, their education or their lives. He overtaxed them, tortured them and killed so many of them. He thought the ghetto didn't matter,” said Bobi Wine.

The pop musician-turned-politician has declared his interest to challenge the veteran leader in the 2021 elections.
