During the launch of the Nairobi Express Way on October 16, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta had more than infrastructural development to talk about.

In his speech, President Uhuru offered a nugget of wisdom, asking the hundreds of youths in attendance –especially men, to be wise when searching for suitable life partners.

Uhuru opined that men should be courteous when wooing women and be gracious enough to accept rejection.

The head of state noted that men should take ‘no’ for an answer and try their luck elsewhere.

“Mimi ile nahimiza kila saa, nyinyi vijana kama mnataka, sio kuenda na kukosea mwanamke heshima, we enda utongoze pole pole pole pole. Ukibahatika sawa, ukikosa tafuta mwengine,” said the President.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s remarks come hot in the heels of concerns from other leaders over the rising gender-based violence cases in the country.

During the burial of Anthony Kariuki, Deputy President William Ruto’s staff member, the DP also urged the youth to stop ‘dodging marriages’ and settle down.

“I know you know yourselves. Those of you who are still dodging marriage, you are still you know, kumanga manga uko na uko. If Anthony was not as organized as you can see, we wouldn’t be discussing here Darren and Daina. I don’t want to embarrass you by asking you to stand but kila mtu ajipange,” he said.

Jackson Mandago’s advice

Joining the President Uhuru and DP Ruto on the marriage and relationship advice train was Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago who highlighted that relationship were not a matter of life and death.

Governor Mandago pleaded with men to take rejection positively and not pressure themselves too much.

“If we have 10million marriages in Kenya, I can tell you for free, probably out of the 10million only 50 people married their first girlfriends.

“Awa mabibi tuko nao labda ni girlfriend number 20, why are you under pressure bwana? Ukiambiwa no, mwambie thank you very much, I wish you well.

“Mkipatana, salilimiana, akikuintroduce huyu ni my new boyfriend mwambie im also doing very well, I’m still searching ukiona something nice niko hapa, relax my friend,” said Mandago.
