Three charged for claiming prime land hosts ‘evil spirits’

Three men accused of defrauding two businessmen Sh2 million by deceiving them that their land had evil spirits have been charged in a Nairobi court.

Mzava Selemani, Shariff Ali and Titus Fedha appeared before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.

They were accused that on diverse dates between June 10 and 26, 2019, at 16 Red Hill Garden in Westlands, they conspired to defraud Harbans Singh of Sh2 million by fraudulently tricking him that the property he was intending to sell had evil spirits.

They also lied to him that the land had shells, black powder and assorted clothing which required cleansing.

The three were also charged with defrauding Harbhajan Singh Sh280,000 by tricking him that the property he was intending to sell had witchcraft paraphernalia that needed to be burnt.

They denied the charges.

The magistrate directed the accused be released on Sh500,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh300,000 each.

The case will be heard on September 26, 2019.
