This year's memorial of the late Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa was marked in a private ceremony at his Kitale home.

The family held a low-key memorial to allow for the completion of the ongoing construction of a mausoleum.

The 16th anniversary of his death was marked with a mass led by Bishop Maurice Crowley at Immaculate Conception Church.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa said the mass was special since it was devoid of politics that have characterised previous commemorations.
