Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz, real name Naseeb Abdul Juma, has excited his fanbase with a hard-hitting message on condom use.

Speaking during an awareness campaign between his Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) crew and Tume ya Kudhibiti Ukimwi Tanzania (TACAIDS) ahead of Wasafi Festival, Diamond pleaded with his fans to adopt its use as the first guard against HIV/AIDS.

“This is the right time for me to retrospect and give advice to my peers and those who love my music. If we were to practice safe sex, we would make strides in reducing infections and the spread of the disease. I don’t believe that the absence of female condoms would increase the spread since coitus involves two. Men should sheath up," narrated Diamond.

Diamond noted that men are notorious in pressurising women. He thus urged them to be wary of traps and individuals who insist on unprotected sex.

“Women, ask yourself, why is he forcing or pressurising you into unprotected sex? If you have not agreed to have a baby, say no, be cognisant that he has ill motives against you or wants to force you into motherhood,” said the WCB boss.

He reiterated that he has a duty to educate all his fans across the world.

“I am at the opportune time. I have always wanted to impact lives by using my talent to reach out to my fellow youth. It is not me dishing out advice, it also about me adding knowledge,” he added.

According to TACAIDS' Deputy Director Jumanne Issango, those between ages 15-24 in Tanzania have the highest reported number of new infections with 80 per cent of them being women.

“Our goal is to see that civic education continues especially among this age group across the nation,” noted Issango.

A point supported by BASATA’s Bonnah Masenga who lauded the move by TACAIDS to engage the Tanzanian music powerhouse in spreading the message.
