Passenger opens plane’s emergency exit door thinking it’s the toilet

The passenger was travelling on the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Manchester Airport to one in Pakistan.

A plane was delayed for seven hours after a confused passenger opened the emergency exit after mistaking it for the toilet door, according to reports.

The woman deployed the emergency chute and the departure at Manchester Airport had to be postponed.

And the 37 people travelling on the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight had a long delay on Friday night as the airline had to push back its slot.

Manchester Evening News says the rear emergency door was opened in the blunder.

Engineers had to be called to restore the exit after the tourists were offloaded.

But reports the plane was on the runway when the incident happened are incorrect, according to officials at Manchester Airport.

PIA spokesman Mashood Tajwar told the Pakistan-based The Express Tribune that "there was no threat of any kind".
