She was paid to attack me- Sonko’s Passaris accusations that got his JKL interview discontinued

Mike Sonko and Jeff Koinange.

On June 5, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s interview on Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange Live show was cut short minutes after it began.

The decision to cut short the show was reached after Sonko claimed to possess damning evidence against Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris.

Differences between the two played out on Madaraka Day after Passaris raised concerns over delayed approval of projects by the county government.

“Mimi si bwana yako, ati niwe nashika simu yako wakati unataka, kwa hivyo hapo tuheshimiane,” responded Sonko, a move that prompted Passaris to walk out of the celebrations.

Paid to embarrass me

Appearing on JKL, the flashy governor went straight for Passaris’ jugular as soon as the interview with Jeff began

“She (Passaris) wants me to look bad in front of Kenyan women…” claimed Sonko.

He further accused Passaris of being used by a senior government official to embarrass him in public.

“She (Esther Passaris) was under instructions from a senior officer in the office of the president to attack me in public… she was paid.

“Passaris is misleading Kenyans; I do pick her calls. She made allegations against me and I had a right to reply,” he further claimed.

Interview cancelled

Sonko also accused Passaris of allegedly wanting to be paid her allowance twice and luring him to a hotel room

"The Nairobi County women representative wanted her per diem to be paid twice. I have not paid her and I will not pay.

“Hata mimi ni bwana ya mtu na akikuja (Esther Passaris) hapa nitamuuliza kwanini ananiita Intercontinental kwa room… we want leaders who respect families,” Sonko claimed as Jeff tried in futility to steer the conversation in another direction.

“No, you’re diverting (the discussion),” a resolute Sonko said.

After a commercial break, the station decided to discontinue the interview with Jeff saying, “due to standards and quality control here at Royal Media Services Governor it looks like we cannot continue with this interview.

“Yes because you are one-sided, you are shying away from the real facts,” responded Sonko.

Passaris, who is in Canada for the Women Deliver conference is yet to speak on the matter.
