Former CS Rashid Echesa reveals he is back in school

Fired Sports CS Rashid Echesa seems keen on turning his luck around.

Three months after getting fired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Echesa has revealed that he has gone back to school.

Speaking during Bunge La Maisha hosted by Billy Miya and MCA Tricky on Radio Maisha, Echesa pointed out that the papers will enable him vie for any political seat come 2011.

“I am back in school and by 2022 I will have the papers to vie for any seat in the country, including governor Kakamega County if the people want me to,” said Echesa.

Class Seven dropout

Echesa’s appointment as the Sports and Culture cabinet secretary by President Uhuru raised questions after it emerged that he dropped out of school in Class Seven.

After Echesa submitted his CV to the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments, a member of the committee said they had expressed reservations about his qualification but approved him all the same.

Echesa dismissed the news at the time, saying “those stories are being shared by political detractors.”

He however could not specify the schools he attended as his critics asked him to address his qualifications.

Uhuru lectures Echesa in front of Raila

Echesa’s downward spiral seemingly started after being openly rebuked by President Uhuru in front of ODM leader Raila Odinga five months ago.

While visiting Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s mausoleum, Uhuru got angry over its poor state prompting him to lecture Echesa as Raila watched.

“You wait for weekends where you attend every funeral insulting your rivals. That is not the work of a CS. That is the work of politicians. You don’t seem to know your job description,” said Uhuru.
