After differing with her husband, a drunk wife in Tetu, Nyeri County decided to go sleep in the extra bedroom, leaving her equally inebriated husband alone in the matrimonial bed.
But for some strange reasons, the woman, Nancy Muthoni, pushed the joke a bit too far by inviting over a neighbour, believed to be her secret lover.
But while in the throes of passion, Muthoni lost control and began making some wild, odd noises, which spilled over to the bedroom where her husband, Evans Chomba was sleeping.
As expected, the man broke into the room and a brawl ensued, leaving the woman with a serious head injury that led to her death hours later.
Narrating to Judge Abigail Mshila the ordeal at the Nyeri High Court, Muthua-ini Assistant Chief, Paul Kang’atha explained how he found the deceased lying unconscious in a pool of blood in the room.
With the assistance of some neighbours, the Assistant Chief said they rushed the victim to Outspan Hospital, Nyeri, where she was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) before she passed on hours later.
“After preliminary investigations, Chomba and the neighbour, a Mr. Githaiga, were arrested, but Githaiga was later set free after recording a statement with the police,” said Paul Kang’atha.
In his statement, Chomba stated that he accidentally hit his wife with a broom he was aiming at Githaiga when she tried to separate them as they engaged in a physical fight.
Hearing will proceed on June 27, when the doctor who carried out the post-mortem on the deceased is set to testify.
