A 37-year-old man has killed himself in Migori after his wife allegedly refused to give him money for lunch.

Josel Onyango set himself ablaze using petrol in his house in Suna West sub-county.

Neighbours said they heard him quarreling with his wife on the phone as he pleaded with her to send him money for lunch.

His brother Fredrick Ouma told The Standard that his brother had been living with the woman for the past five years after separating from his first wife.

“I received a call from his neighbour who told me that my brother had killed himself. He said his brother locked himself in a room and used petrol to set himself on fire,” said Mr Ouma.

“The woman is away in Mombasa but today when my brother asked her to give him money for lunch, she became rude and asked him to use the same money he uses in drinking alcohol for lunch," he added.

A witness who requested anonymity said the woman had been paying rent for Onyango.

Migori County police Commander Joseph Nthenge said they were investigating the matter.
