An Indian man has chopped off his index finger after it dawned on him that he voted for the ‘wrong’ party.
In a video that has since gone viral, Pawan Kumar said that he accidentally voted for the ruling party, Bharatiya Janata Party BJP
According to the 25-year-old, he intended to vote for a regional party but the many symbols on the voting machine confused him hence, casting the vote for BJP.
"I wanted to vote for the elephant, but I voted for the flower by mistake," Kumar is heard saying in the widely shared video, referring to the party symbols displayed on the voting machine.
According to India Today, he was rushed to a hospital but was soon discharged after treatment.
In several videos that have gone viral, Kumar is seen spotting a bandage on hi index figure.
Due to low literacy levels in parts of India, party symbols play a vital role in assisting voters cast their ballot.
With 900 million eligible voters, India’s election is the biggest the world has ever seen.
The voting is taking place over seven stages with the counting set for May 23.
