Did Diamond Platnumz make a request for a neighbourhood he resides in to be renamed after him?
Well, according to Global Publishers, Diamond allegedly sought to have his Mivumoni locality named after him but was turned down by the area’s Serikali ya Mtaa.
The outlet claims that Diamond was expecting a positive result considering the weight his name carries in Tanzanian showbiz circles but the rights went to the chairman of the Serikali ya Mtaa, Deodatus Kamugisha.
Mivumoni was thus renamed Mtaa wa Kamugisha.
“Diamond si unajua tena alikuwa anaamini yeye ni staa hivyo mtaa ule utakuwa ni wake, lakini viongozi wa Serikali ya mtaa wakamuwekea ngumu na kupotezea kabisa na umaarufu wake wakaweka kando,” a neighbour told Global Publishers on condition of anonymity.
A position confirmed by an official at Mivumoni, Christina Chilumba, who said they had made the decision before Diamond made the request.
“Hatukumpa kwa sababu tulikuwa tayari sisi tumeshafanya mchakato wa kumpa mwenyekiti wetu na ndiyo maana hadi sasa unaitwa Mtaa wa Kamugisha,” said Chilumba.
On his part, Deodatus Kamugisha stated that the area was named after him in his absentia.
“Walinipa wakati mimi nikiwa najiunguza sikuwepo kwa takriban miaka mitatu, hilo ndilo ninaloweza kukuambia kuhusu huo mtaa ambao wameupa jina langu,” said Kamugisha.
When contacted, Dimond’s manager - Babu Tale - declined to be drawn into the reports.
“Lingekuwa linahusiana na shoo au muziki wake hapo ningeweza kulisemea, lakini kwa ishu ya mtaa kwa kweli siwezi kusema chochote,” said Tale.
