2018 has been quite a year with sex scandals, high-profile murders and weddings topping the most read stories on SDE.

Migori Governor Okoth Obado and Ababu Namwamba are some of politicians who featured on our list while Samantha the sex doll also featured prominently.

Here are the 10 most read headlines on SDE in 2018:

1. Upcoming singer Nexxie accuses DJ Mo of taking Sh20,000

Early this year, an upcoming gospel artiste, Nexxie, accused Dj Mo of not playing his new song despite the singer giving him Sh20,000.

In his rejoinder, Dj Mo accused the singer of trying to gain fame by uncouth means.

“As you all can see, he wants to make a name for himself using the wrong channels. Fame, money and status is what he’s looking for,” said Dj Mo.

2. KCPE 2018 results

Ahead of the release of the 2018 KCPE results by Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed, SDE did an article to enable parents, students and other stakeholders access the results.

Candidates who sat the exams accessed their results by sending an SMS with the ‘Index Number’ to 20076.

3. Samantha the sex doll


Samantha, a sex doll offering adult entertainment was a hot topic of discussion in 2018.

The doll, which enables buyers hand-pick features such as face, hair and breast size has some Kenyan men mulling the idea of brothels for sex dolls.

The doll is said to have a realistic silicone skin and the ability to flirt and even simulate orgasms.

What’s more, the doll is programmed to remember the owner’s birthday and favourite films, music and, get this, his favourite position.

4. Governor Okoth Obado’s secret affair with wife’s sister

Shortly after Migori Governor Obado was prominently featured in the murder investigations of university student Sharon Otieno, he was featured in yet another scandal, bedding his in-law.

It emerged that Governor Obado had a fling with Rhoda Odie Nyakwaka, the stepsister of his wife, Migori First Lady Hellen Obado.

According to a member of Hellen’s clan, the affair started when the governor employed Rhoda at the county headquarters in the catering department.

Besides gifting her with a house, there were allegations Obado got Rhoda pregnant but the pregnancy was allegedly terminated at the behest of angry relatives who accused her of crossing the blood line.

5. Former CS rejects President Uhuru’s ambassadorial post

An outgoing Cabinet Secretary was offered a diplomatic posting was left fuming as he would have to be bossed around by a person who had been his junior.

The dejected man was overheard telling friends that he never requested President Uhuru Kenyatta for the ambassadorial post and would rather have been fired straight.

6. TV anchor Mary Kilobi’s marriage to Francis Atwoli

Four months ago, social media went wild after a seemingly jilted Bungoma politician Jack Wanami Wamboka, claimed that Atwoli eloped with Kilobi who was his wife.

But Kilobi has dismissed Wanami as a joker out to ruin her blossoming marriage to the 69-year-old veteran trade unionist.

“I love Atwoli, he is a caring man who is always there for me. Given another chance, I will still fall in love with him,” she said.

7. Ababu Namwamba’s love affairs with close family

The Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was accused by some of his relatives of getting too intimate with relatives.

In one case, Daniel Namwamba, Ababu’s paternal uncle, told The Nairobian that Ababu got too close to Margaret, the Ugandan wife of Johnny Namwamba.

Another incident was when Ababu was a law student at the University of Nairobi in 1995. He was living with his sister at some point, received disturbing reports from her daughter (Ababu’s niece).

8. Mother-in-Law actor Jeff ‘Ninja’ Okello’s wedding

Jeff Okello, the celebrated Mother in Law actor popularly known as tied the knot with his Finnish fiancé Atja Maria Huhta at a lavish, invite- only wedding was held on 14 January 2018.

9. Janet Wangui’s burial in an isolated, forested area

Janet Wangui was shot dead by police at City Park in Nairobi, with her hubby later claiming that she was having a love affair with his nephew.

The USIU alumni was interred over half a kilometre from the homestead in a forested patch, leaving her quiet grave guarded and pacified by crowded eucalyptus trees and a lush tea farm.

“I can’t believe that is Janet’s grave lying in solitude in the bush. I worked for her five years ago and we have been friends all along. It is such a sad ending,” a mourner said.

10. Monica Kimani’s murder case will go nowhere- Irungu bragged to police

Following the gruesome murder of Monica Kimani in her apartment, Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu, fiancé to TV anchor Jacque Maribe was arrested in connection to the death.

According to a security source, Irungu had bragged to police officers who had arrested him that “the case will go nowhere.”
