President Uhuru fourth most followed leader in Sub-Saharan Africa

President Uhuru Kenyatta is one of the most followed leaders on Instagram in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to a report by global communications agency Burson Cohn & Wolfe (BCW).

His 95,000 followers pin him at a distant fourth behind Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo who has 444,000 followers, Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame with 209,000 followers and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari with 192,000 followers.

Tanzania’s official government account has 50,428 followers, Macky Sall of Senegal at 31,720 and João Lourenço of Angola at 29,522. Others are George Weah of Liberia at 24,310 and Emmerson Mnagangwa at 22,025.

According to Chief Innovation Officer at the agency Chad Latz, Instagram has become the social media platforms with most interractions.

“This third instalment of the BCW study shows Instagram has become the social media network where world leaders garner the most interactions,” said Chad Latz, Chief Innovation Officer, BCW.

Most youths have appeared popular with the platform with Twitter preferred by professional personalities in the society. Most of them are yet to establish a presence in the platform.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India leads the pack of global leaders popular on Instagram with 15.85 million followers with Indonesian President Joko Widodo the second most popular leader on the platform with 14 million and US President Donald Trump coming in third with 10.9 million followers.
