Man to serve 30 years in jail for murder of student


A middle age man who was found guilty of manslaughter in the death of University of Eldoret (UoE) student, was last Friday sentenced to serve 30 years in prison.

Hosea Kipruto Kipchumba, a former caretaker at Canaan hostel where the deceased Sam Kibiwott Kemboi was staying, was arraigned before Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa, who found him guilty.

The caretaker is said to have beaten up the student on suspicion that he was a thief, only for him to die in hospital while undergoing treatment.

The incident occurred between the night of 23rd September and 24th September 2017 at Canaan house in Chepkoilel area in Eldoret within Uasin Gishu County.
