Man missing after assault after over beer bill

Naaman Karani

A family in Ntumburi village, Meru County is seeking help from government agencies to help trace their kin who has been missing for almost two months now. His disappearance came immediately after he was attacked at a club in Isiolo town over unsettled beer bill.

Naaman Karani, 36, went missing on the night of July 17, after bouncers unleashed terror on him, demanding he settles a beer bill.

Before his phone went off, the father of two, an accountant working in Meru town had called his wife and informed her that he was being accosted by the bar management after he failed to clear a bill.

“When he called me he was asking me to send him money to pay for the alcohol he had taken, that was around 6pm. However by 8pm when l tried to reach him his phone was off,” said Evelyne, Karani’s wife.

Family members who spoke to The Standard said their efforts to unearth the whereabouts of their kin had been fruitless, even after reporting to six different cop shops, including Isiolo Police station.

“We do not know if the officers are colluding with the Club management because they have even refused to record our statements, despite even having people who said they witnessed and identified the suspects who accosted my brother after he failed to pay the bills,” said Magania, a brother to Karani.
