This is my biggest regret in life: President Uhuru’s niece Nana Gecaga

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s niece, also the Managing Director of Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) Nana Gecaga, has revealed the thing she regrets most.

The mother of three struggled with alcohol addiction for 19 years. Appearing on Churchill Show earlier this year, Ms Gecaga shocked and amused many when she said she would down an entire crate of beer and a bottle of hard liquor a day.

‘’Well it was 24 beers that's a crate a day and a half a bottle or full bottle of liquor,’’ said Gecaga.

Ms. Gecaga, who threw a lavish party this year as she turned 40 years old,  has disclosed that her dream, in 1996, was to win an Olympic gold medal but due to the addiction, she quit sports.

“The person you see here today has had many lives before who I am today. My passion was actually sports. I was a very big athlete back in the day, and I actually qualified for the ’96 Olympics.” she told Kiss 100.

“My biggest regret is that it derailed (alcohol addiction) me from pursuing my dream in athletics, even after qualifying for the 1996 Summer Olympics – sprinting. Due to drinking, heavily at that time, I just said: ‘I had qualified for the Olympics, but did not go’. Now, when I look back, I say it was my time to do service,” she added.

However, Ms Gecaga, received all the support she needed to overcome the addiction.

“I was able to go to rehab and from there, it’s been 19 years without drinking,” she said.
