Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga came up with a better way to address Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on the garbage menace in the city. The former Supreme Court President resorted to using his vernacular Kikamba to blast the governor over his move to benchmark with Dubai on garbage collection.

Both Kamba natives, Dr Mutunga wondered why Governor Sonko was benchmarking with Dubai whereas garbage was right here in Nairobi.

“We Mbuvi ni wisi takataka yiiva Ilovi withi Dubai kwika ata mwa?” (You Mbuvi, You know garbage is here in Nairobi, what were you going to do in Dubai?), he tweeted.

Kenyans on Twitter lauded the former CJ not only for reaching out to the governor on the city’s garbage menace, but for using his mother tongue, which they believe will effectively get the message home.

In an interview with a local broadcaster, Governor Sonko admitted that garbage collection was a menace in the city and that he went to the UAE capital to explore garbage collection and recycling options. Here are some of the trending responses he got:
