#ChomaNaNgoma: List of top artistes set to headline Kenya’s biggest concert

Yemi Alade will be live in action on the 31st of May at KICC

Until the launch of Radio Maisha in 2013, almost all Radio stations either played American R & B, hip hop, rhumba, reggae and a sprinkling of local music.

Radio Maisha burst onto the scene with a new mix of music, referred to as contemporary African.

This beautifully woven mix of hits from mainly West, South and East Africa spiced with witty talk and a good serving of current affairs has propelled the station to a position where it is interchangeably taking market leadership with Radio Citizen.

Fena Gitu

The success has spawned a national following and a respectable appreciation of African music. It is on the back of this that Choma Na Ngoma has been born. An event to celebrate African music and cuisine. Revelers should expect lots of nyama choma, kuku choma, samaki choma, mitura and all manner of other finger licking grills.

Keeping with the tradition of charity beginning at home, the organizers of the event have lined up a list of top local talents led by the pre-eminent boy band Sauti Sol, Willy Paul, Tha Kansoul, Fena Gitu, King Kaka and Khaligraph Jones to headline the inaugural concert, styled as an annual festival.

Willy Paul

To top it all, the night of Madaraka day eve will be crowned by the sassy, energetic Nigerian queen Yemi Alade.

The Afro pop singer and songwriter gained prominence after she won the Best Female at the 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA).

She has also become a household name in Kenya, thanks to her collabo with Sauti Sol and efforts to sing in Swahili. She is currently riding high on the charts with her hit single Bum Bum.

Yemi who has already confirmed attendance at the Radio Maisha event is currently on the last leg of her European Tour that took her to 15 different countries

King Kaka

The Standard Group Head of Radio, Tom Japanni, promised Kenyans a taste of the best in contemporary African music and cuisine. According to Japanni, Choma Na Ngoma is an opportunity to also thank the millions of Radio Maisha fans and partners who have driven the station to market leadership nationally.

Sauti Sol

“If you all like the best Africa has to offer musically, if you are looking for a way to usher in Madaraka day in style and you’re a sucker for finger-licking African grills, then Choma Na Ngoma is the place for you on the 31st May. Come down to the KICC and let’s create something beautiful, the more the merrier. We shall ensure ample parking space, enough security and a heavenly experience under the African sky - bang right in the middle of the city in the sun” Japanni added.
