Babu Owino loses Embakasi East seat

Babu Owino

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has lost his parliamentary seat. Babu’s victory in the 2017 August 8 elections was challenged by Francis Mureithi.

Speaking at the Milimani Law Courts after the nullification of his win, Babu blamed his woes on the Jubilee government, claiming that the president and his DP manipulated the judiciary.

“This is a war between the President, Deputy President and Babu Owino” declared the former SONU leader.

“It is not news that I have been opposing the government because it (the government) was not legitimately elected by the people of Kenya” he added.

The former legislator however stated that he will appeal the court’s decision and declared that he could beat the president his deputy if they were to vie for the Embakasi East parliamentary seat.

“What I know is what doesn’t kill you will make you stronger. I am not a person who can be brought down easily,” he concluded.

In Mureithi’s submissions through his lawyer Kiragu Kimani, he stated that the election is not only about numbers but also the process, which, according to him was flawed.

Focus will remain at the Milimani law courts as three other petitions are determined today.  Embakasi South MP Julius Mawethe, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, and Embakasi North’s James Gakuya will know their fate.
