He went on: “I would also like to commend the bravery of our security forces who took part in the rescue operation of PS El Maawy.”

An attempt by Saturday Standard to get information on the PS’s status was futile with an official referring us to Ministry of Interior or the Office of the Government’s Spokesperson for an update.

“Government spokesman or Interior ministry,” read the short response from State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu. Reports say she was shot in the shoulder and suffered burns on her legs.

The PS was ambushed and abducted on Thursday evening at Milihoi along the Lamu Mpeketoni highway by suspected Al Shabaab militants. She was rescued by a team of security officers who engaged her attackers in an intense counter attack.
