Heartbreaking footage has emerged showing a toddler crawling around in the dirt while his parents lie drunk in the street.

The mother and father are now facing child cruelty charges after passing out twice while caring for the little boy.

Horrifying photos and video footage of the pair were released by police in the south-eastern Ukrainian city of Zaporozhye.

Police first rescued the tot when his parents were found passed out as they sat around a makeshift tyre table with booze scattered around them next to the baby's bottle.

The crying youngster was strapped into his baby buggy desperately trying to wake his parents.

The toddler's 28-year-old mother was lying sprawled in the dirt.

Police say they revived the couple and rescued the tot before taking the family to a police station where the parents received an official warning.

But just hours later, officers were called out to the couple again by horrified passers-by.

The pair had passed out again, this time with the baby dangling upside down from the 28-year-old dad's hands as he tried to cuddle his shoe.

Officers put the toddler back in his buggy and took the family back to the police station.

The parents - not named by police - are now being investigated on child neglect and cruelty charges.

Their son has been taken away by local social services officials who have put the toddler in care.

The shocking case has infuriated social media users after the images and video were viewed thousands of times.

One watcher - named as 'Alla Voitenko' - said: "What a pair of imbeciles! I hope you learned your lesson!"

Another - named as 'Inna Shamray' - said: "Poor baby, my heart is bleeding when I'm looking at him hugging the dirty shoe, it's horrible."
