Statue of the Virgin Mary starts to 'cry' at church leaving one shocked worshiper to faint

Worshippers have been left in shocked after a statue of the Virgin Mary apparently weeping in church.

A woman spotted the strange occurrence and grabbed her phone to record what she says were tears rolling down the statue's cheeks

Zully de Meaurio said: "I went to the church with my makeup box and when I approached the Virgin I saw that it had water in one of the eyes.

"I called my husband and told him, look at this, she is crying, she has water!

"And then I grabbed my mobile phone and started to record it."

The incident took place in the church of Santa Librada, in the city of Villarrica, in southern Paraguay.

The video shows the statue of the Virgin with what looks like drop in her eyes and a woman can be heard saying: "Look at this, she is crying, she is crying, she has water here, she is crying."

A woman in the background can be heard saying: "She wants us to pray, she wants us to pray."

Zully then started to cry and called her husband and all the neighbours in the area.

She added that "even a young woman fainted" while watching the statue.

Another witness said: "I was called by Zully and went to the church and started crying as she was also crying."

One of the neighbours near the church said: "I hope this could help for peace, so that our authorities will not fight anymore."

According to local media, the church is small temple but boasts a large congregation
