Child spills beans, upsets abortion plans

Tales abound of embarrassing incidents where children innocently spill the beans about the indiscretions of adults, such as a philandering spouse or the weird behaviour of house helps.

Whereas in most cases, such tales are met with fits of laughter, children’s comments can have monumental impact as happened recently in a busy village in Kirinyaga County. Folks were left with their jaws on the floor after a mother’s plan to have her daughter terminate her pregnancy was revealed by a person she least expected.

The charismatic woman is an active member in her local church and her daughter, who completed Form Four last year, is a beauty to reckon with, and was until the incident, the ambassador of good morals; the envy of other parents.

Her charming beauty and manners had every village boy trying to woo her, with some going to surprising lengths in the hopes of winning her heart with little success.

Overcooked food

It appears however, that there was one successful candidate. “Because of her Christian background, we never thought that she could fall for the wiles of a testosterone-crazy young man. She kept turning away advances from numerous suitors,” her first cousin said. Alarm bells were, however, sounded when the girl started demanding certain foods, especially the overcooked food at the bottom of the pot, and developed unpredictable moods that caught her grandmother’s keen eye.

When close family members confirmed that the girl was expectant, her mother could not imagine her reputation and that of her family going down the drain. It was with this in mind that she sought the counsel of a friend, who after mulling over it for a long time, resolved that the best way was to terminate the pregnancy.

Just a day before a rogue medic could carry out the task, her compound was graced by local administration leaders including her own pastor, and when their mission become apparent, the question that plagued her was who could have leaked the plan?

Fortunately for them and the unborn child, a granddaughter of the woman, who was supposed to be asleep as they hatched the evil plan, was actually eavesdropping, and she later told her friends, who told their friends and the matter soon reached the administration. The child had unknowingly saved a member of the next generation.

The plan was aborted and the mother repented.
