There was a spectacle in Nairobi’s Githirai Kimbo Estate last week when a jilted husband stripped naked at his mother-in-law’s house. He threatened to pee on her to protest being denied access to his children and estranged wife.

The man, surnamed Githinji, had had domestic squabbles with his wife, only identified as Rose, forcing her to flee to their matrimonial home in Mwiki area to her mother’s house in Githurai.

The couple’s marriage is said to be chaotic and riddled with regular fights and breakups. All this is said to be courtesy of Githinji who is reportedly an alcoholic and gets quarrelsome when drunk.

According to a neighbour, Rose has always been a victim of domestic violence. In fact, this was the umpteenth time her husband had battered and forced her to seek refuge at her mother’s house.

MISTREATED WIFE

“Githinji takes advantage of the fact that his wife was raised by a single mother and the family has no tough male members to reprimand him when he mistreats his wife. He has developed a habit of battering her, and always gets away with it,” said James Mwangi, a neighbour.

On previous occasions, whenever Githinji beat and chased Rose away, he goes to her mother’s home, humbles himself and and apologises. He has done so on several occasions, promising to change, but in vain.

This time around, Githinji had hoped to use the same strategy but it failed, forcing him to express his displeasure in a rather strange way.

“He (Githinji) arrived, hopping to be welcomed warmly. Unfortunately, his mother-in-law was not in her best of moods, she gave him a hostile reception” explained Mwangi.

“Without even wasting time exchanging pleasantries, the aging woman engaged him in a verbal war. She launched a lengthy tirade, expressing her anger. She told him she is fed up, accusing him of subjecting her daughter to untold suffering and lack of respect, for coming to her house solve a domestic squabble while drunk,” he added.

DRUNKEN STUPOR

Githinji is said to have demanded to see his two children and wife, only to be told they had gone to the market. He did not believe the explanation. He thought they were hiding in the house and did not want to see him. “In his drunken stupor, Githinji went ahead and made a nuisance of himself, threatening to strip and declaring that he won’t leave the house without his wife and children,” said Mwangi.

Push came to shove and the incensed mother-in-law could not take it anymore. She ordered Githinji out of her house, threatening him with dire consequences.

At his wits ends, adamant Githinji made good his threat to strip naked. He warned the aging woman that he was going to pee on her if she did not give him audience.

With nothing on but his underwear, Githinji threatened to whip out his male member and urinate on her, prompting the scared mother-in-law to flee out of the house.

Neighbours who had been attracted by the commotion almost beat up the offending son-in-law had he not quickly dressed up. He was frogmarched out of the compound. The dispute between the couple remains unsolved, with the marriage now hanging in the balance.
